Online Entrepreneurs in Quarantine – The untold and undiscussed facts

Life is not the same anymore” that is what I heard from one of my clients. And yes, we can all agree to that. The complete unanticipated situation the world is going through has brought enormous changes into our lives. And it has become intrinsic we create new ways of looking at life, new ways of spending an ideal day in our lives, and new ways to get our work done.

As the crisis rises up, so many people step forward to help others, sharing their knowledge, their expertise and their experiences, which are such a fabulous acts of humanity. And this is exactly the time when our humanity needs to be at its best.

Over the past few weeks, I have spoken to quite a number of women. In my field of work, I work with female entrepreneurs to take their lives and businesses to the next level. Most of them work online, meaning 85-90% of their work is done from home, apart from events they are involved in or other business travel.

Because of this, people expect they won’t be affected by the current situation as much, but from speaking with them, I have found they too are affected by the Corona crisis.

Here are some of the issues they encounter:

  1. Being confused, due to the changes in their normal routine.
  2. Being distracted, stressed out and annoyed because of their spouse and children are there all the time.
  3. Losing motivation, drive and will for achievements.

There are so many tips and lots of advice on how to adapt to working from home, for people who usually work at an office. But there is limited resources for people who usually work from home, to help them face this crisis.

We are social creatures, and our lives, routines and almost everything we do during the day are connected with other people. So no matter how precise our plans and routines, they are always connected with the rest of the world. So when huge changes happen, they inevitably affect our routines.

So here are some of my tips for those people who usually work from home, not only to survive, but to achieve their full drive and thrive during this time.

  1. Accept change .

The biggest mistake you can make right now is to be in denial. Accept the fact the rest of the world is functioning differently and accept this also affects your work, even though you usually work from home. Just because you work from home, it doesn’t mean you are different from the rest of the world and that you aren’t immune to these changes. The first step is to admit things have to be different in order for you to be efficient. Once you realise this, you can create a plan not just to keep your usual work rate up, but to create something greater, and to accelerate during this time.

  1. Create a new routine, with space for the extra things happening in your life.

It is time for a new plan. Let us be honest here. If you are used to waking up at a certain time, if your spouse used to go to work at a certain time, and if your kids used to wake up and go to school at a certain time, now it is all different.

You are not alone in your house anymore! And no matter how much you try to pretend you can continue to be as efficient as normal, in reality, you can’t be. So you need to create a new routine. And this routine should include space for the extra tasks going on in your life.

As an example, if you used to work from 9 to 4 with a little break for lunch (when you used to eat alone), now you can take a long lunch with your family, enjoying lunchtime, (how about creating a meal plan, and a rota for who will cook?) and taking a good break yourself as well. And to make up for that, you could work a bit longer than 4 o’clock. You could work until 5.In this way, you get to experience a new change in your routine, and your family gets to create their own routines as well. And a change in your routine from time to time can actually be good to you.

  1. Acknowledge your family in your plan for the day, help them to create their own plan and be strongly disciplined about it.

This is one of the things you will thank yourself enormously for doing. One of the biggest complaints I heard when talking to women who usually work from home, is the distraction they get from their family.

They also mentioned how annoyed they get, and how emotionally stressed they feel to have the whole family around all the time when they have to work. The only way you can deal with this is to educate them. Maybe your spouse used to work from an office and now works from home, or he is no longer working.

Maybe you have kids who used to go to school, but they are now at home, with nothing to do. In their minds, this is like a holiday. If they don’t go to school or to the office as they used to, for them, this means it is time to relax, time to have fun. Although they know it isn’t a holiday, subconsciously they are in a very different state than working. This is how our brain works. For them, work is not related to being at home, their brains are trained that when they are at home, it means not working, in other words, relaxing, fun time, holiday.

On the other hand, for you it most definitely is not a holiday, in fact, it is a time where you need to work even better and harder. So for you, your home still means work. To find a balance in this conflict, it is vital you explain this to them. Let them know that for you, this is not a holiday and you need to work as normal.  Create plans for them and a routine for your kids. Help them learn the value and importance of being disciplined. And work with your spouse to make a plan together for them.

  1. Create new rules .

It is time to create new rules. If you have an assistant, manager or a team working for you, this is the time to renew and tighten the disciplines of your business. Your team is going through the same struggles as you are, and they have their own lives to deal with in this situation.

However, it is very important they still give their best to your business in order to bring the best results. Go through your usual meeting plan. See what you can do differently right now. Be creative, and think about every corner of your business, creating a new set of appointment plans and guidelines for your team to follow. Educate them about the new situation, share with them your new goals, and help them to be their best despite the situation.

  1. Upgrade yourself and be aligned with the future self you are creating

As an entrepreneur, you have a dream to attain. No matter what kind of a business you have, you have a big vision of your future. Take a look at that future self. Think what you can do, be aligned with that future self right now. And upgrade yourself in some way for you to be a step closer to that dream.

As an example, if your goal is to build a seven-figure business and to be a Millionaire, think what your future self as a millionaire looks like. What will she be doing when she wakes up? What does she eat? What does she wear? Choose one or a few, and upgrade yourself. If your future self is drinking tea in fine bone China, swap your usual big mug into fine china. Feel and enjoy the upgrade and feel being closer to your future self.

This has two benefits. The first one is – this is a huge energetic push towards your journey. You are basically giving strong energetic massages to the universe about your future self. Secondly – this works as a change and a refreshing switch in your brain and fills you with motivation and fresh energy. And adding a few personal upgrades gets you back on track, reminding you the reason behind your business, and it gives you a kick start whenever you feel down.

After all, it is all about the right identity we are creating, and it is crucial you work on that identity at different levels, in order to achieve your biggest, wildest and magnificent dreams.

  1. Start a new project

As the world is filled with so much uncertainty, it is your time to take the lead and create something greater, so people can benefit from it and make their lives better, while you are getting paid for the excellent service and benefits you bring them.

Be creative, and think with a beginner’s mind. What can you do differently at these times, so your clients can benefit even more? What is the one thing your field of work doesn’t have which could perfectly fit into the current situation? What can you do differently in your current projects, to make them more useful and practical? What does your industry miss right now? Be a leader and take that first step to creating something new. Be an inspiration to all the other entrepreneurs, and help the world to grow and heal.

If you are someone who used to work from home and feel overwhelmed and stressed while everyone else expects everything should be okay with you, you are not alone. Yes 😃, when we are able to make distance from everyday routine we get possibility to conect with ourself and create our new reality. Ideal time to become more flexible and start changes or some new project at this point.
